Fans have waited about 20 years for Homeworld 3. As far as specific numbers we’re not really saying right now, but we hope to have more information in the future. We’re still working on performance and things like that to make sure we get to the best numbers we can get. Mueller: We want to be comparable, as much as possible, to previous titles. GamesBeat: How massive is the space now? How many ships are operating in the space? All of these things were very difficult 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago. We can do three-dimensional terrain, cover, hiding in tunnels. Now the technology has caught up with the expansive vision of Homeworld 2 and now Homeworld 3. A lot of the things we ended up doing in Homeworld 2 were really good, but we wanted to do more. A lot of the ideas and vision for Homeworld 2 were massive and expansive. Mueller: Homeworld 3 has been a dream since the beginning of Homeworld 2’s development. GamesBeat: What was the inspiration or charter when you first got going? I played a battle that takes place at the site of an ancient hyperspace gate network. Mueller said the game will also have a strong storytelling element too. I’m hoping that will make the game a lot more fun than its predecessors. I love the gameplay of HW2, amazing stuff but the story left much to be desired. And they failed at making it as gripping and as powerful of a story compared to the first game. HW2 tried to be far more complex story-wise than HW1 did. Causing much tension and excitement to be lost due to the player being left in the dark regarding the story. Instead of the mystery being evoked in the atmosphere and the world, the mystery is instead put into key aspects of the story. It felt like doing a shopping list or something. In HW2 the story was hidden and you were told to go there so that you can find that and so that you can do that to achieve something else. "We are going to the promised land and we stand to lose everything should we fail". In HW1 the story was also clear from the beginning. It was humbling and it added to the fascinating encounters with the Turranic raiders and the Kadeshi. It was about the atmosphere and evocation of emotion, HW1 made the player feel small in a vast and unknown galaxy. Homeworld was about a vast mysterious galaxy filled with old history and relics from a long forgotten age. HW2 is more based on characters and I feel like that's never what homeworld was about. The only bad thing about homeworlds 2 story is how it's not focused on the universe as much as homeworld 1 was.
